Say what!?! Tim Coulson twerking it? OK, OK, he didn't I really just wanted to get on the Miley twerk train because apparently that's so hot right now (insert confused emoji)!?! Some of you out there know of Tim Coulson and his magical photo taking abilities and those who don't are going to find out.
Since the breakdown of my family life I found it hard to get excited about anything creative. I stopped sewing, painting, and even pinterest wasn't fun. I was quite numb for weeks that I found it hard to feel joy from anything. A midnight conversation with one of my BFF's sparked a light bulb in my brain. She was talking about how she was going to study photography and was encouraging me to get back into something creative. Talks of styling, interior designing, even architecture went down but I couldn't stop obsessing over photography. This my friends was the end of my creative slump.
I bit the bullet and invested in an entry level DSLR, and it was like the universe was talking to me. Why? Because after being absent from the internet Tim Coulson advertised for a Sydney workshop "The Nursery" and I had to do it. Now all these people out there who are too cool for school for social media, Instagram is where it's at. If it wasn't for the gram I wouldn't have found Tim. Before I went on an ex-girlfriend rampage and deleted every social media outlet, I stalked Tim Coulson's gram. It was flooded with images of his life. He documented his wife and child beautifully though his lens and his imagery left me constantly scrolling through his feed. So clearly after stalking The Couslon's I emailed them to grab a place in The Nursery.
Workshop day rolled around and I took Nikolai (yeah, I named my camera) and headed into the city. I was nervous, excited, and I had the upper lip sweats. After a beautifully spoken Kesh's introduction to how her husband got to this point in his life, a handful of unexperienced slr users were off and shooting. The way Tim spoke about his art and the way he taught was an experience I would totally encourage any newbie taking photos to go to. Before I went to The Nursery I was just shooting auto and now I feel like I have a good understanding of basic manual shooting. I did this workshop because I just wanted to document my daughters growth and now my confidence is building and I want to shoot everything and anything.
Thank you and high five Mr Coulson & Co. Although I already knew that you guys were a magical power house of love and creativity, you guys won me over even more and if there was an award like Australian of the Year but for Families, the award would totally go to Tim, Kesh, and Roo. Please take the time to check Tim's work on his blog here and on his instgram here.
